Disasters – whether natural or man-made – only seem to be increasing in ferocity and frequency. Tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, oil spills, and more are damaging towns and ecosystems, and often require extensive (and expensive) clean up after. Unfortunately, well-intentioned volunteers are often ill-equipped to safely and adequately sort through refuse and debris. During National Preparedness Month, it’s important for people to be ready for weather’s worst.
Indeed, safety workwear such as work gloves, safety glasses, knees pads, and cooling vests and towels were a valuable asset in the aftermath of two of the most catastrophic events in American history.
The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill began on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of Mexico on the British Petroleum (BP)-operated Macondo Prospect. By the time it was finally capped nearly three months later, an estimated 3.1 million barrels of oil had spilled into the water. After, cleanup crews required an assortment of safety gear to do their work.
