  • Perform maintenance large tonnage overhead cranes, indoors and out with temperature ranges from 25 below zero plus wind chill to 140 degrees for sustained periods.
  • Climbing multiple stories to the top of gantries onto cranes while hauling up to 60 lbs of gear. Perform electrical maintenance, repair and inspection on all components and equipment.

  • 3.5 years

  • 1.) Extreme heat stress during warmer months 2.) Climbing on dirty greasy cranes is often challenging. 3.) Getting up to the cranes is very often difficult because of the distance in the climb. 4.)Bitter cold in winter. 5.) Being able to visually inspect all electrical components on a crane in a given amount of time.

  • In all honesty completing a long day (10 plus hrs) on cranes with out slips, nicks, trips, scrapes or falls. In that time finding issues that can create serious down time on the equipment. For example, discovering very badly worn collector shoes on the 480v hot rail of our Main Hot Metal Ladle Crane. They would have failed within a day had this not been discovered and changed, causing the crane to possibly stop while transporting a 70 ton ladle of molten steel.

  • Require protection from falling, slips and trips Protection from heat exhaustion and stress in warmer months.

  • The Grace of God. I also owe my employer 100% of my time and dedication while on the job because they have provided me with an excellent position in the company with a very good wage and benefit package.
