CHILDHOOD AMBITION:

I knew I wanted to create and build. As a kid that meant expecting to be an architect. In college, I had a work study job in the school woodshop and fell in love with furniture making. It wasn’t until I started grad school that I discovered industrial design and my path into product development was set. I’m happy to say I’ve realized my childhood ambition!

FAVORITE MIX(ES):

The Clash, 50’s Jazz, Bob Dylan, Beastie Boys, Leonard Bernstein, Bruce Springsteen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Nina Simone, Dropkick Murphys, Willie Nelson, Pixies, Queen, Violent Femmes, Aaron Copland…Somewhat eclectic, I guess.

FAVORITE BOOK(S):

Short stories by Thom Jones and Amy Hempel, books by Chuck Palahniuk, anything with spare language, wit, and insight.

FAVORITE MOVIE(S):

The Royal Tenenbaums, The Big Lebowski, Interstellar, Rushmore, Rocky Horror Picture Show, I could go on. I’m a Gen-Xer who grew up in front of a TV who has a love for movies.

PROUDEST MOMENT(S):

Marrying a wonderful partner and raising two great kids together. The rest is just details.

LAST MEAL:

Big bowl of pho & a spring roll

ALARM CLOCK SETTING:

6:14 alarm clock time, which is 5:48 real time (yes, the clock is set 26 minutes ahead). It doesn't really matter, because I hit the snooze button for an hour anyway. I am not an early riser.

FAVORITE QUOTE(S):

"You…You’ve earned it." – Peter Venkman

"Yeah? Well, you know, that’s just like uh, your opinion, man." – The Dude

"It’s just a party, Janet." – Brad

SURPRISING FACT:

I raced BMX bikes for 30ish years and have the aches, breaks, and scars to prove it. Also, the Oxford comma is a good thing.

Vice President of Product

I’m a central Minnesota kid, raised by a railroad machinist/volunteer firefighter and a hardware store clerk. I grew up in the garage and around the old car scene where I learned the value of the DIY ethic. I started racing BMX bikes at age 10, was pretty good at it, and kept after it through my thirties. My core childhood and young adult memories were made at car shows and bike races with family and friends. Early jobs included shoveling snow, a couple of paper routes, and bicycle sales and repair.

After studying at St. John’s University (MN) and earning a B.A. in Studio Art, I spent a couple of years pursuing and M.F.A. in Industrial Design at Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Notre Dame. I jumped ship from grad school to take a dream job working with celebrity designers at a major MN retailer. This experience taught me 1.) I didn’t want to become a celebrity designer and 2.) I was interested in learning more about business. From there I moved to the bicycle industry where I ultimately “grew up” professionally through roles in customer service, purchasing, product management, brand and product development, and whatever else piqued my interest. Eventually, I rose to leadership positions in product management, product development, and purchasing functions. Through all these experiences I learned on main thing: I am a product person to my core.

Working with users to discover needs…Evaluating market opportunities…Innovating to solve problems…Working with manufacturing through development…Evangelizing at launch…I love it all! This is the core of what the Product Team does at Ergodyne, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a part of it since 2020. After roles as Product Director for a handful of categories, I am now fortunate enough to lead our talented Product crew!
