Working on the ambulance we need a bag that is durable, reliable, and portable. The 5244 Blue Responder Backpack is an excellent choice for that. I have tested this bag for a month now and have used it on numerous emergency calls and events. I have constructed a pro and con list below with details on each one. I have also included a list of supplies that was put in the bag to give you an idea of the amount of material that can be stored.

    Pro:

Mobility: This backpack is by far 5/5 stars on portability. The shoulder straps are padded and made with high quality material that is durable, comfortable and padded. The bag offers extra waste straps that can ease the load of the bag and offer that "hiking bag" type experience.

Material/Durability: Initially I was skeptical about the material the bag is made out of but it has proved itself worthy by easily holding up under the 24/7 use of being thrown, dropped and rough handled from constant use all while holding the equipment and materials that we need. The material is water resistant and does an excellent job of that. I had no problems with supplies getting wet while in the rain. I give the material 5/5

Style: The color scheme and style of this bag definitely sets you apart from any other. I have gotten several compliments and answered a ton of questions about the bag. The orange is also high visibility and gives you that extra sense of security if working on the road ways. The embedded start of life of the back of the is absolutely a plus. Definitely 5/5

Locking ability: The main compartment is lockable with a luggage lock or zip tie. I use a wire locker lock that works perfect. The other zippers on the bag do not have the ability to lock which is a downside because the side compartment on the bottom is an excellent medication compartment, but this is a personal preference. I give a 4/5

    Cons

Size: I was actually a little disappointed in the way this bag is set up for storage. I got the feeling that it forces you into buying the modular sections that are separate from the bag.I found 2 that I used from an old bag of mine that worked perfect. It would be nice if the included at least 2 with this bag. The inside is set up just like a classic school bag. Open net storage style with an open compartment in the center. The main compartment is able to unzip completely allowing the bag to fold completely flat on the ground which I have grown to like. I can spread out all of my equipment while keeping it on the bag instead of being on the ground. On the front of the bag is what I call the "admin section" where you can store pads, pens, pen light, trauma shears, maps and other small pieces of equipment.

Overall the pro's outweigh the cons by far. I am impressed with this bag and I have been praising it to all of my co-workers to have as a personal jump kit. I do unfortunately have to say that I would not replace this as my primary bag on an ambulance due to the limited space and inability to have separate compartments. The bag is excellent for hikes and limited jump kits.
